Clifton D 4 Hanham B 2
Anthony, called in at short notice because Andy was unwell brought off a very nice win with black. When I first glanced at his position he was a parn up, but apparently in considerable difficulties with white's rooks on the 6th & 7th ranks. I couldn't see any obvious counter play, but when I next checked he was in the process of forcing a back rank mate.

Harambee A 2.5 v Hanham B 3.5
Harambee defaulted the bottom two boards, but it was still a close run thing after Tim lost quickly while my opponent manoeuvred me into Zugzwang. Happily, Anthony drew on board 3, while James won a Rook and Pawn ending.

Keynsham B 3.5 Hanham B 2.5
Our season did not get off to the best of starts, but no doubt many players on both sides were rusty after the summer break. This was certainly the case with my opponent who overlooked several minor tactical points that enabled me to build up a substantial advantage without any real cleverness on my part. Anthony was the other winner; in a congested pawn and major peice ending he contrived to break through on the wing and then drive his opponents king into a mating net in the middle of the board. Andy manged a draw.
I didn't see much of the other games, but Martyn, making his debut for the B team, was unfortunate to face such an experienced opponent as Barry Davies.
