I must apologise for not updating this website in a while! With redundancy, Explorer Scouts and other things, including OU study now, it has been a bit on the back burner.

Since my last update we have been very happy to welcome two new players, James and Angelo.

11/10/2009

On Thursday our 'C' Team drew against a strong Harambee 'B' Team. Well done to Richard Kirk & Mike Jennings for good wins. There are a couple of match reports and updates.

Looking at the latest tables our teams are doing very well. Both the A & B teams are second in their respective divisions.

07/10/2009Hanham 'B' defied the odds and beat Yate 'A' 3.5 - 2.5. A great result! Match report has been posted.
02/10/2009

There have been several small updates. Including some match reports.

I have not been given all the Match reports for the A & C teams. I normally ask the captains but if anyone would like to write a few words, please send them to me.

The easyfundraising has not really taken off like I would of liked. If anyone has any genuine fundraising ideas give me a shout.

17/09/2009

I have been very busy with other things and have not had the time to update this website for a while, I apologise.

I have added results and report and a few other updates.

24/08/2009

Please remember the Club Championship is tomorrow, details below.

We seem to have lost our main graphic above. I have tried during my break at work to correct this, but all I could find was a bloke with the cheesiest of grins. I have added a link to South Bristol Chess Club, if there are any links you would like me to post please contact me.

19/08/2009I have updated a few pages to tidy things up. The major update is the fixtures for the upcoming season have been uploaded.
18/08/2009

We have received confirmation of the change in date for the Hanham Club Championship. It will now be held on 25 August 2009. Steve Woolgar writes,

"Anyone who wants to play needs to let me and/or Roger know by Monday 24th and the clocks will be started promptly at 7:30pm on the Tuesday. Anyone not there after 15 minutes will be defaulted round 1, anyone not there by the start of round 2 will be deemed to be a non-show and therefore not eligible to take part. Pairings will be done under the Swiss system using the new grades for 2009-10. Club chairman can be bribed with an apple and melon J2O."

Steves and Rogers emails are available on the 'Contact' page

16/08/2009I managed to get 4/5 in the Steve Boniface Memorial U-145. I was 4/4 but blundered my queen in spectacular and/or stupid style. I still managed to share 1st place.
15/08/2009I managed to win both of my games today, this is not my normal pattern. I usually lose both games on a Saturday!!
14/08/2009

The Steve Boniface Memorial Tornament takes place this weekend. Our only participant, yours truly, got off to a perfect start. Getting the win against one of 'Pete's Potentials'. He offered me the draw before he made his move (he had the stronger position, but he clearly did not want to make a mistake). I asked him to make his move before I would consider (as is the correct procedure) and he proceeded to make the mistake.

Due to fixture clashes the Club Championship is likely to be brought forward, likely to the 25th of August, but I will put the definite date when I've had it confirmed.

11/08/2009The new grades are out! Please go to the '2009/10 Grades' page to find out yours. My grade is lower than Steves' there must be some mistake! ;-)
09/08/2009

After the summer break, the new season is nearly upon us! Don't ask me about the new grades, because I don't know! From the rumours I've heard, if you use a random number generator you won't be far off!

I have been given the results to just one event we've had this summer and it's the Gambit Night. Here they are...

1st - Anthony Carver (101) (Hanham) 5/5

2nd - Richard West (74) (Hanham) - 4/5

3rd - Phil Lawson (104) (Hanham) - 2/5

=3rd - Roger Williams (58) (Hanham) - 2/5

4th - Graham Strickland (92) (Horfield) - 1/5

=4th Richard Kirk (39) (Hanham) - 1/5

29/05/2009

The entry form for our Gambit night is available from our 'What's On!' page.

Some photos from this years Club AGM are available on our Photos page.

28/05/2009

Well it's been an eventful couple of months in my life, hopefully I am now back on track. So here's the latest news on all things Hanham Chess Club.

At the Club AGM we ratified the new club constitution and there was some emotion. The Fischer Random Event was won by yours truly. The question is can anyone wrestle the Hanham GP from my grasp. I will not mention our Open Evening but thanks for every member that turned up.

The League AGM is on tonight. I may go myself depending on my availabilty.

The next event on the Hanham GP is the Gambit Night which is open to everyone. So make sure you're there to support the club!

11/04/2009Hopefully I have corrected the problem with Richards Match report. I have also added the dates of some events organised by the Bristol League, on the What's On! page.
10/04/2009

I have added the latest report from Richard West. Hanham B beat Downend D 3.5 - 2.5. Yours truly will publish his game on this site in due course, with analysis from Deep Hiarcs. University A failed to turn up at their home venue, so Hanham A team won the recent fixture by default.

I have updated our What's On! page with the summer programme. The dates are fixed, but for unforseen problems.

09/04/2009

Sorry for the lack of updates, I have been extremely busy. There will be a big update over the Easter weekend. Not just from tonight. Please expect to see little bits not complete as I finish it bit by bit.

We have now raised £1.60 from www.easyfundraising.org.uk. The money earned from searches is picking up. Please keep using this and remember if you make any purchases online, please register and purchase through this site. Every little helps.

I had a disappointing Bristol League Congress. With a score of only 2/5, I should have done better.

25/03/2009

Another B-Team match report from Richard West has been uploaded. Also the results have been updated as well.

Having bought a few books from Waterstones via www.easyfundraising.org.uk the total raised so far is £1.08. This will soon add up if more people register. Please register via our easyfundraising page and help us raise more money.

24/03/2009

I apologise for the lack of updates on the website for the last ten days. My time has been taken over by other responsibilities. Competitors in the recent Rickard Shield would agree I serve a mean Hot Dog!!

I would like to thank Richard West for his B-Team updates, well done for a draw with Bath University. I think this has to be one of the results of the season!!! Unfortunately other team captains have been less forthcoming (or slack, take your pick).

The club have raised a total so far of £0.17 with www.easyfundraising.org.uk thanks to my Mothers Day present. This could pick up greatly with just a little effort from our members. Remember if we refer an organistion we get 20% of what they earn. So please contact me if you think you are a member of a organistion who could make use of this.

14/03/2009

Hanham Chess Club have joined forces with www.easyfundraising.org.uk to help raise additional funds. These funds will be a great help in the future development of our club. You can also help raise funds by searching the internet via EasySearch. For more information use the side navigation bar.

I have made some minor updates. I would also like to stress the importance of your contributions. Your match reports, games or ideas are very welcome. They will help keep this website fresh.

07/03/2009

I have added a new page, 'Find Us'. Hopefully this will help prospective new members and opponents to get to our venue. I have also added our Gambit Night which is due to be part of the Bristol Grand Prix, onto the 'What's On!' Page.

The date for our club AGM has been provisionally set for the 12th May 2009.
